D.R.E.A.M. Team Hosts Drive-in Movie Showing "Soul" on May 3, 2024 (New Date!)

Middle school students at Chief Umtuch who are part of a youth leadership group called the D.R.E.A.M. Team are hosting a free drive-in movie event as part of their efforts to support their peers in living happy, healthy drug-free lives. The students have organized pre-show entertainment with a prevention theme intended for the youth audience. Meanwhile, for the adults, there's an exciting opportunity to win fabulous gift baskets through a raffle, with all proceeds generously supporting the D.R.E.A.M. Team and their future projects.

Each year, the DREAM Team develops projects and activities aimed at helping their peers make healthy decisions to avoid drugs or alcohol. In addition to their initiatives to educate peers on the harms of substance use, particularly e-cigarettes, the team's past projects have included a focus on helping students to better understand their emotions and on finding one's "spark" to create positive connections. In 2021, as part of these efforts, the D.R.E.A.M. Team hosted a drive-in movie featuring "Inside Out," a movie about emotions. So this time, to tie in with the team's "sparks" project of the last few years, they picked "Soul," a Disney Pixar film by the same creators of "Inside Out".

"Soul" follows the journey of Joe Gardner, a middle school music teacher with a deep passion for jazz music. Joe's dream is to become a professional jazz musician, but he finds himself stuck in a rut, feeling unfulfilled by his day job. Through an unexpected and otherworldly adventure to The Great Before, Joe learns learns valuable lessons about the meaning of life and the importance of finding one's spark. He also discovers that life is about more than just chasing dreams; it's about finding joy in the little moments and appreciating the beauty of simply being alive. These poignant lessons are what the D.R.E.A.M. Team students hope to convey at this drive-in movie event.

The drive-in movie will take place in the parking lot at Lewisville Campus & CAM Academy just south of Chief Umtuch Middle School. Due to rain in the forecast for April 26, the event will now take place on Friday, May 3rd. Gates will open at 7:30 PM and the movie will begin at dusk. Pre-registration for the event is required and all spots have been reserved. If you reserved a ticket, your ticket will be good for the May 3rd date - no need to do anything but show up and have a good time!
